Fire Crews Respond Twice to Abandoned Home Fire on Bataan Memorial

Las Cruces firefighters responded to an abandoned residential structure fire twice in less than 24 hours.

Firefighters were called to and extinguished a fire in a residential structure at about 10:45 a.m. Sunday morning on the 3300 block of Bataan Memorial. Up on arrival, fire crews encountered heavy smoke in one of the rooms. They were able to quickly extinguish the fire. A search of the home revealed no persons inside. 

Crews were again called to the home, at about 2:45 a.m. Monday morning to find a working fire with heavy smoke throughout the structure. Crews remained on scene until 9:30 a.m., this morning to ensure hot spots were extinguished and that the home was not again trespassed upon. 

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
